THE CHALLENGE

Determine current users’ behavior, attitudes, and expectations through usability testing on the production higi mobile app as well as a higi-fidelity mobile app prototype.

THE OUTCOME

Through the use of contextual inquiry, validated the direction that the new release was taking the UI, determined that Find a Station is not intuitive, and don't understand the value proposition around gamifying biometric check-ins.

IMPACT

Insights from contextual interviews, task analysis, and prototyping lead to UX improved in Find a Station feature in mobile and web apps and eventually informed better communication of the create account value prop to higi Station users. METHODOLOGY

At its core, the primary agenda for the testing was to gather data and insights into the current higi user so that the product development and management team could take those findings, process them and then make actionable adjustments and improvements to the overall higi mobile experience.

Usability testing on the higi mobile apps consisted of three types of tests:

  1. Contextual interviews: After a user engaged with the higi Station I ran through an usability test script to to determine the user's familiarity with the higi systems, health and wellness apps, and gauge the participants understanding of a new product that higi was hoping to bring to the market.
  2. Contextual task analysis: I relied on task analysis to better understand how a user experienced the higi mobile app. My intended goal was to witness perceived gaps in the native user apps' user experience, user interface design and information architecture.
  3. Prototyping: The prototype consisted of interactive PSDs that were presented in a web view through the Invision app on an iPhone 6 test device.

Revisions

As a part of this portfolio I went through the exercise of revising the higi mobile app usability test. My primary focus with the revisions was to A) revise any grammatical errors B) improve document organization and C) express the tangible impact that the project had on higi's future mobile releases.
